Professor Ann Mwangi (SSACAB Co-PI) recently attended the Strengthening our Global Ties: Alumni & Research Network Development Week at Hasselt University, hosted by the Data Science Institute (DSI) UHasselt, where she participated and presented as an alumna.
As a graduate of the Master of Applied Statistics and Biostatistics programme, Prof Mwangi highlighted that her return to this distinguished academic community was both meaningful and inspiring. The event brought together alumni, current students, and partners from the Global South, creating a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, strengthening partnerships, and exploring new avenues for collaboration.
During the programme, a presentation titled “My Journey Post-MSc: Reflecting on Achievements, Current Initiatives, and Shaping the Future of the Alumni and Friends Network” was delivered, highlighting key milestones in the alumnus’ professional journey. The presentation underscored the critical role of alumni networks in shaping career pathways and fostering sustained collaboration among alumni, researchers, and institutions.
Why this matters:
Robust global academic networks are vital for advancing research, innovation, and real-world impact. Strengthening connections between alumni and institutions—particularly across regions—enhances knowledge exchange, supports the development of emerging scholars, and contributes to addressing shared global challenges through inclusive and collaborative approaches.
The event also provided an opportunity to reconnect with mentors, colleagues, and fellow alumni while contributing to the continued growth of the Alumni & Friends Hub. Appreciation is extended to the Data Science Institute (DSI) UHasselt and VLIRUOS for their invitation and ongoing commitment to strengthening global academic partnerships.
