Professor Samuel Manda (SSACAB Co-PI) is currently attending the International Symposium on Current Trends in Modelling and Software Development in Data Science and Statistics, alongside the HIV/AIDS Conference in Durban, South Africa. These events form part of the ongoing work of the eR-BioStat International Training Programme, continuing its strong tradition of scientific engagement across South Africa and the broader region.

Prof Manda sees initiatives of this nature as an important complement to the impactful work being undertaken through regional biostatistics capacity-building programmes such as SSACAB and other training efforts across Africa. By strengthening expertise in modern statistical modelling, software development, and data science, these initiatives help ensure that researchers and public health practitioners have the skills needed to generate robust evidence, inform policy, and improve health outcomes.

Why it matters:
Fostering these skills is essential not only for advancing high-quality research but also for building sustainable local capacity to tackle pressing health challenges, including HIV/AIDS and other public health priorities. He anticipates the insightful discussions, knowledge exchange, and collaborations that these engagements will foster.
