PES Activity

The SSACAB II programme successfully hosted the Mathematics in Science/Biostatistics Career Event to inspire learners and students at multiple educational levels to explore careers in biostatistics. The event targeted Grade 6 to 7 learners and Grade 11 and 12 Pure Mathematics students, as well as undergraduate and Honours students at Wits University.

Key objectives included introducing early learners to STEM possibilities, informing senior learners about career options, and engaging university students with biostatistics opportunities. Stakeholders involved local schools, university departments, and the Gauteng Department of Basic Education. The event featured keynote presentations by experts, student testimonials, admissions guidance, and insights on provincial mathematics performance trends. Over 150 participants attended, including learners from numerous local schools, Wits undergraduate and honours students, and senior education officials.

Overall, the event successfully enhanced awareness and interest in biostatistics, contributing significantly to the development of a future workforce in this critical field.
