SSACAB welcomes new postgraduate student Munyaradzi Ndumeya into its family of fellows, students and practitioners!

Supported by SSACAB, Munya will pursue his postgraduate studies in biostatistics in the Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Wits University’s School of Public Health. Munya joins the programme after completing an honours degree in mathematical statistics at Wits, where he developed a strong foundation in statistical theory.

As part of SSACAB’s orientation programme, Munya is being introduced to the academic, administrative, and technical components of the degree, including hands-on training in statistical software such as STATA. The programme brings together faculty, administrators, and students to ensure that emerging biostatisticians are well supported from the outset.

“I am really interested in applying statistical methods to health research, with a long-term goal of contributing to peer-reviewed publications and evidence-based decision-making in the health sector,” he said. Biostatistics turns complex data into insights that can shape policy, improve health systems, and save lives. By supporting students like Munya, SSACAB is building a pipeline of African biostatisticians who are not only technically skilled but also embedded in local health challenges and research priorities. This investment strengthens long-term research capacity across the continent.
