The Wellcome Trust facilitated a DELTAS Africa Programme Directors event where they reflected on a decade of partnership of consortiums with Wellcome Trust and FCDO Services through the DELTAS Africa Initiative. The Wellcome Trust funds the SSACAB programme through the Science for Africa Foundation (SFA); therefore, it was an honour for the SSACAB programme director, Professor Tobias Chirwa, to be one of the attendees at the event. The discussion focused on the below messages: African-led research is reshaping the narrative—driven by local leaders, institutions, and agendas. Over the past ten years, the DELTAS model has delivered: ➡️ Equitable collaboration across countries and institutions ➡️ Long-term investment in people, building scientific leadership ➡️ African-led solutions to pressing health challenges Why it matters: Empowering African scientists and institutions strengthens the continent’s capacity to tackle critical health priorities, builds sustainable research infrastructure, informs policy, and positions Africa as a global hub for innovation—driving solutions that deliver impact both locally and globally.
